Embedded deep in the DNA of Newark Church of the Nazarene is the call to serve. We believe that serving others is a biblical way of life. There are many ways to live it out. Of course it is impossible to facilitate quality ministry in a church without an army of people who serve within the church and its many ministries. It is also imperative for a church to serve together outside its’ walls in the community. We also embrace and believe that we serve in ministry in our secular jobs. In other words, the call to serve and be in ministry is for everyone who follows Christ. No one excluded from the call. On these pages you will find ways that you can be involved and way that you and your family can answer the call to serve others and to be in ministry.
–Wes Humble, Lead Pastor
Additional information and event dates are available on our KidCity blog. seeks to partner with families in the faith development of children. We seek to help bring children to Christ, to develop their relationships with Christ and each other, and to equip them for works of service. We embrace the unique needs children have from birth through sixth grade for fun, age-appropriate, energetic, and meaningful activities.
FIREHOUSE KID CITY WORSHIP - Sundays 9:45 AM
REAL LIFE KID CITY WORSHIP - Sundays, 10:45 AM
Families are encouraged to worship together. Each week there is a special activity sheet available for kids that engages them with our celebration service. Families can ask a sanctuary door greeter for the activity sheet.
In our Kid City celebration, children are led in worship through song, drama, Bible stories, and activities. Preschool kids meet at the Kids City Fire Station and Elementary Kids meet in the P.o.w.e.r. Plant for worship.
All kids, birth through sixth grade are invited to join us as we learn more about the Word of God, the Church, and what we believe. "The Word on the Street" is an exciting time that includes play time, singing, making new friends, and discovering more about God's Word in age-appropriate classes. "Word on the Street" helps kids identify their gifts and provides opportunities of service to others. Family service projects are also regularly scheduled so that Kid City can practice being God’s hands and feet to our community.
Our preschool kids gather each week to learn about different Bible heroes through purposeful songs, Bible stories, activities, and snacks.
Our nursery provides a worshipful and educational environment for infants and toddlers as we love and care for children and families. Our nursery is available during all three celebration services on Sundays.
Infants – 6th graders need to be signed in and out of their classrooms by a parent or legal guardian. All Kid City staff and volunteers have been screened and have had background checks performed prior to serving in the classrooms.
This club was created especially for 5th and 6th graders! We know that these two years of transition are very important to kids. Through play, study, and opportunities to be in leadership, ROU TE 56 seeks to affirm this age group and give them a place to belong.
ROUTE 56 will have the opportunity to lead in worship during the 10:00 AM Kid City service through serving on the hospitality team, praise team, drama team, media team, or by serving as small group leaders.
ROUTE 56 participates in the Kid City Worship service at 11:30 AM and meets with their own small group.
ROUTE 56 joins the rest of Kid City Ministries as they participate in JOY University on Wednesdays.
Each spring, ROUTE 56 has a discipleship class that is on a two year rotation. One year it is “My Faith” and the other year it is “Walkin’ in the Word.” Each child will have the opportunity to be baptized and to become a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
ROUTE 56 meets for small group at Leigh Anne Wycoff’s house (directions located at Central Station). Small group includes Bible study, discussion, games, and snacks!
ROUTE 56 regularly has events just for fun! These events include bowling, miniature golf, game night, all-nighter, etc.
Newark Naz is actively looking for ways to serve others in our community and around the world. Our desire is to create an atmosphere where people can serve our community with “no strings attached,” where individuals and small groups create opportunities to serve, and where we become known in our community not for our programs, but for our love.
The purpose of Discipleship 2010 is to give every person the opportunity to have a growing relationship with Christ. Checkout the the brochure for the list of classes and their times. They will be offered throughout the year at different times and locations. To learn more... email the office by clicking here.
Gather Around
We have officially gone orange. What does that mean? Instead of Kid City focusing on a ministry for kids, Student Community only focusing on ministry for students, and everyone else focusing on their ministry, we have decided to focus our energy on doing things together.
Does that mean we will no longer have Kid City or Student Community? We still believe in the importance of designing worship and activities that are age appropriate for kids and students, but more importantly, we realize we need everyone to come together so that we can make a lasting difference in the lives of our kids and teens. (Red and yellow also make orange if you are still trying to figure that one out.)
We want to be family minded. We recognize the importance of the individual family, but we are talking about being family. We need to surround ourselves with others who are building into our lives. We also need to build into the lives of others who need spiritual grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, and sisters to shape and lead them into a growing relationship with Christ.
We want to be family friendly. Because we recognize the importance of individual families, we want to partner with families. We want to come along side them to provide support, encouragement, and resources for those who are raising kids and students today.
Our hope is that together we can learn how to share in God’s Story. Together we can learn how to serve, and together we can live for God.

Bud Wilkinson, the legendary coach of the University of Oklahoma, was once asked, "What has football done for the fitness of the American public?" He answered, "Absolutely nothing! I describe football as a game being played by 22 men on the field, desperately in need of rest, being watched by 50,000 people in the stands, desperately in need of exercise." Coach Wilkinson expressed a physical reality that has spiritual implications--to develop and grow into "fit" Christians, we've got to get into the game. We do this through service and ministry to others. You may not be a Bible scholar or evangelist, but everyone, no matter where you're at in life, can meet someone else's need with the resources that God has provided you. One of our primary goals here at Newark Naz is to help you get into the "game".
We encourage everyone to grow spiritually by getting involved in one or more of our “spiritual development opportunities.” For those whochoose to get in the game by serving, we have inreach and outreach ministry opportunities. Inreach ministries involve ministries that directly minister to people within the walls of our church (e.g. children’s ministries, student ministries), while outreach ministries are designed to care for our community (e.g. service projects, Real Life Community Church). Here is what you can do:
- Read through the general descriptions listed on the “Serving Opportunities” page to discover an area in which you might like to serve.
- If you would like to get more details on a serving opportunity or if you want to get involved in an area listed on the “Serving Opportunities” page, simply contact the leader listed.
