What Are Small Groups
Small Groups are typically 6-12 (sometimes more) people that commit to meet regularly for varying purposes. Some groups have a focus on mutual care and support, while others are more concerned with service, still others tackle Biblical and topical studies; some are for a set number of sessions while many are occurring on an ongoing basis; but all are committed to “doing life together” and encouraging one another in spiritual transformation.
NewarkNaz’s Mission for Small Groups
“That every person has the opportunity to feel connected and cared for, having the best chance to grow in their relationship with Christ.”
Types of Small Group Opportunities at NewarkNaz
Home Groups
These groups are typically what we think of when we hear the phrase “small groups.” They meet in people’s homes (or at the Naz) at various times, foster a friendly, relational setting and focus on how we live as Christ-followers where we are at in our lives.
Study Groups
This type of small group tackles either specific studies on Biblical texts, characters, and stories, or deal with a topical issue that deserves a more focused and intensive look. Study Groups happen within a safe, discussion-encouraged environment of honesty, support, and prayer.
Support Groups
Support Groups offer care and strength applying God’s word to specific, life-altering situations. Most of these groups meet for a specific period of time and are structured to foster ongoing mutual support.
Special Interest Groups
These groups are designed around a common interest (like a singles social group) or activity (such as fitness or bicycling). Shared encouragement and enthusiasm keep members active and consistently participating in life to the fullest.
Service and Ministry Groups
These teams enable people to connect with others while sharing similar talents, interests, and gifts through service and ministry within the church and to the greater community.
How do I join a small group?

Who do I contact if I would like to host or help lead a small group?
Hosts of a small group open their home for group meeting times. Some provide food; others help organize a Leaders and co-leaders share in the responsibilities of organizing and facilitating group life.
